Ten Irish Pony Club Minimus members will travel to Catterick in the UK to compete at the North of England Tetrathlon - Minimus International Tetrathlon competition on Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th of June.
They will compete against teams from Northern England, Wales and Scotland over the weekend. The very best of luck to the entire team and their team manager, John Flood. This team has prepared extremely well over the last few months, only learning to shoot for the first time in March this year. The team includes:
- Sahara Smith, Co. Cavan Branch
- Jaime Hargaden, Carlow Hunt Branch
- Andrew Hensen, South Westmeath Hunt Branch
- Niall Fitzgerald, Kildare Hunt Branch
- Lucy Martin, Kildare Hunt Branch
- Tom O'Rourke, South Westmeath Hunt Branch
- Phoebe Horgan, Ward Union Branch
- Ella Lombard, Duhallow Hunt Branch
- Skyla Nally, Wicklow Hunt Branch
- Tristan Howard, Nenagh Branch
At the recent Minimus championships in Millstreet, the Irish teams, comprising of the members listed above, won the shooting phase in the Invitational competition. This was a major achievement given that the Scottish team have been shooting for a far longer period of time.
The squad will begin to travel to England on Thursday 27th and Friday 28th June with the competition beginning on Saturday with the shooting, swimming and running phases. The cross country phase will take place on Sunday 30th and the Irish team will be hoping to do well in this phase. This is our fourth year competing at this competition in the UK and we hope that everyone has a really good fun, enjoyable weekend creating, many lasting memories.
This is a wonderful opportunity for young Minimus athletes. All members who will be eligible for Minimus in the coming years ,especially those aged 10 and above who would like to try out for these international teams should continue to work on all aspects of the Minimus phases to put their name forward for nominations and trials in 2020.
Good luck Team Ireland!
