The Mixed Relay was the Highlight for the Irish with Kate Coleman (ex-Meath Hunt Branch) and Mike Healy (ex-Warrington Hunt Branch) competing as a pair for the 1st time. The day started with a strong swim and the pair finished 3rd followed by the fencing competition which brought them to 5th place. The show jumping phase saw the Irish with double clear rounds taking the highest score of the day with just 5 time penalties giving them a score of 295, taking them to 3rd place. With the final combined Run / Shoot phase remaining, the pair kept their cool for the shoot and ran their way into 2nd place taking silver.
This is the 1st Irish medal for both Athletes and even more impressive it was Mikes 1st senior competition. Mike still has 1 more year at junior age group.
The athletes have 2 weeks of training now before heading to the next World Cup in Bulgaria on 22nd May.
The future looks bright for Pentathlon Ireland.
