Chairman of Eventing Speech

Well, the sun really shone down on our Eventing Championships weekend but even the beautiful weather paled in comparison to the displays of athleticism and sportsmanship by all our eventing competitors! It was, I feel a wonderful weekend with the three disciplines run over two days and this would not have been possibly firstly without the help, support and organisational skills of my wonderful Eventing Committee for all the hard work and dedication they put into the organisation and running of these events.

I have to recognise and thank our sponsors for this and the qualifiers for this event, Connolly’s REDMILLS, Foran, Carr & Day & Martin for their gracious and continued support again this year. We once again returned to the pristine and scenic venue of Tattersalls Ireland set in the heart of the Royal County, Meath. To the Tattersalls IRE CEO Mr. Simon Kerins and his exceptional team we cannot thank you enough for your hospitality and providing us with the most amazing facilities. Thank you to Mr. Eugene O’Neill of Tattersalls IRE for the fantastic cross-country courses that he designed and built and for all his help throughout the whole weekend. A special word of thank you to our technical delegate and assistant technical delegate who worked tirelessly all weekend.

When organising these events especially at a national level it is imperative to have the help and backing of families and volunteers, so to all of you who may have marked a fence, acted as a steward or helped in anyway, especially in such warm conditions – Thank you so much, you are the scaffolding that holds our organisation together and ensures its continued growth and success. To paraphrase the poet Seamus Heaney “We may let the scaffolds fall, Confident that we have built our wall” based on the strength of your volunteering and giving spirits.

It is I feel, to the competitors and all Pony Club members that the biggest thank you and respect must go, you are the stars of the show. Whether competing at home or internationally you are all a credit to your branches, families and stellar representatives to our Pony Club and blaze a trail for the younger members that will follow behind you, please keep up the excellent work, training and continue to be the wonderful ambassadors for us that you are.

I hope to see you all at the Hunter Trials next month!
