The Irish Pony Club Senior Tetrathlon Squad that travelled to Pontispool in Devon last weekend was the largest, consisting of 31 members and the most successful trip that we have ever enjoyed. Mr. John Flood Chairman of Tetrathlon was absolutely delighted with their success, determination and the manner in and drive in the way they competed that led to their success. Once again the riding phase of the competition was the most influential with only 3% of competitors receiving the maximum of 1400 points available.
We won the Regional Competition which was made up of the cross country phase with both our boys and girls teams and our teams finishing in the following order;
A Team 1st
B Team 3rd
C Team 3rd
And D Team 5th.
The boys team finished 1st and 3rd and the overall winning girl was won by Lucy Hogan from Cavan. William Verling from West Waterford also won the Boys Individual competition. We could not be prouder of these and all our competing members for their fabulous display of sportsmanship. While we very much won in the riding phase the Irish have a history of strong runners and this was very much the case with the boys coming from 300 points behind to win by 300 points with a fantastic time by William Verling of 9.33. The Girls team were equally impressive and ensured they held the lead.
The wonderful success this has had comes down to all the hard work and training that they put in and we are so proud of their effort and dedication, they are exceptional ambassadors for the Pony Club and for our sport and we hope their families and friends are as proud of them as we are – keep up all the good work and training. We must also recognise and acknowledge that this success would not be possible without the support and dedication of their families, the trainers and volunteers that give up their free time to volunteer and we thank you all so much as it would not be possible to do any of this without you! We hope you all enjoyed the trip and competition and that it is a good warm up for our own very anticipated National Tetrathlon Championships this coming weekend and we hope to see you all there!
