Congratulations to Cathal Daniels and the Irish Sport Horse mare Rioghan Rua who produced a magnificent performance at the Longines FEI Eventing European Championships at Luhmühlen in Germany, to claim the individual bronze medal to add to the World Championship team silver medal they won last year.
Cathal, from Co. Galway is a former member of Tynagh Branch. After Friday's Dressage, Cathal was lying in 13th place scoring 29.0. A clear Cross Country round, well inside the time on Saturday saw him rise to sixth place. On the final day, a perfect clear in the Show Jumping phase enabled Cathal to put pressure on those above him, finally finishing in third place.
Cathal Daniels’ bronze medal is the first Irish Senior European Eventing medal win since 1995 when Lucy Thompson claimed gold with Welton Romance at Pratoni del Vivaro in Italy where Ireland also won team bronze.
Well done to Cathal, all of his team and to Rioghan Rua's owners Margaret and Frank Kinsella on another fantastic achievement.
