PONY CLUB Tetrathlon

Tetrathlon is a challenging four phase competition requiring practical horsemanship and general athletic ability involving running, riding, swimming and shooting.
• Running phase: The senior boys run over a 3,000 metre course while senior girls and all juniors run over a 1,500 metre course and each competitor’s time is measured.
• Swimming phase: The senior boys swim for 4 minutes, senior girls and juniors swim for 3 minutes.
• Shooting Phase: Senior boys and girls shoot using an air pistol of .177 calibre at 10m. air pistol targets from the standing position. Junior boys and girls shoot using an air rifle of .177 calibre at 10m. air rifle target lying in a prone position. Scores from all four phases are added together to arrive at an individual score for each member. The best three individual scores are calculated to arrive at a team score.

Teams will fly into the Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) on Friday, July 13th and fly out of Greenville Spartanburg International Airport (GSP) on Monday, July 30th. On arrival teams will begin cultural experiences in the Tryon, North Carolina area including tubing on the Green River, visiting the Harley Davison Motorcycle Museum and outdoor concerts. The teams will be housed in college dormitories for the duration of the exchange and will have the final competition, July 27th-28th, in conjunction with USPC Championships East at the Tryon International Equestrian Centre. TIEC is the host of the 2018 World Equestrian Games and USPC Championships will be one of the last competition on the grounds before the WEG 2018.

Members wishing to be considered for participation in this exchange must be nominated by their DC.  Selectors will be looking for good ambassadorial qualities in Nominees. Behaviour and attitude throughout training will be taken into account when selecting teams.

Please complete and sign the application form, get your DC to sign and return it to the office by Monday 8th January 2018.

Nomination to the Irish Pony Club Senior Tetrathlon Squad

The Tetrathlon Committee of the Irish Pony Club are seeking nominations from IPC Tetrathletes.

United States Pony Clubs, Inc. have invited the Irish Pony Club and the International Tetrathlon Exchange countries to the USPC 2018 Tetrathlon Exchange in North and South Carolina on July 13-30, 2018. This invitation is extended to one team of four boys and one team of four girls, one team manager (chaperone) and one coach per country. Team members must be between 16-21 years as of January 1st, 2018 with their C Test.

Congratulations to the Irish Pony Club Tetrathlon Team!

Congratulations to the members of the Irish Pony Club Tetrathlon Team who travelled to Nunney, Frome, Somerset over the week to compete in the Pony Club Regional 100 Tetrathlon Competition.  It was a super weekend for the Irish team who won both the boys and girls team titles.  This is the first time that the Irish team has won both team competitions at the same time.
